Oracle Linux 6.1 And libcap.so.1: cannot open shared object

Last Week trying to install Oracle GI 11.2.0.2 on Oracle Linux 6.1 and hit with this error. This is a test setup on VirtualBox and this error was hit while running root.sh for standalone db setup.

Entries will be added to the /etc/oratab file as needed by

Now product-specific root actions will be performed.

While if you can see from here we have new version of this package.

[root@linux6 /]# rpm -qa |grep cap

libcap-ng-python-0.6.4-3.el6_0.1.x86_64
libcap-2.16-5.2.el6.x86_64

libpcap-1.0.0-6.20091201git117cb5.el6.x86_64
libcap-devel-2.16-5.2.el6.x86_64

So, the solution would be adding this package. Well, it’s in 5.6 distro but then it would conflict with this new version and will not install.  As this is the library what i did was just copied with the name it required

[root@linux6 lib64]# ls -ltr libcap*

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 19048 Jun 11 16:24 libcap.so.1

After this we need to deconfig current install and try to run that root.sh again. and it worked fine but now facing different error.

Well looked into tracefiles but no clue. But after tracing that this was the exact thing that was causing error

So, found on metalink that this might be issue with pipes and it was not able to read from that. and here is the solution

  1. dennis says:

Hey, did you solve the problem with the ohasd pipe yet? We also have this problem on OL6 and it is a bit annoying to open the pipe everytime the crs is started. (It is also kind of dangerous because external consultants working with the Oracle installation usually don’t know this trick)

    • Taral says:

      Yes, somebody already posted that

      http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=9601673

      #start oracle
      start on runlevel [0123456]
      stop on runlevel [016]
      respawn
      exec /etc/init.d/init.ohasd run >/dev/null 2>&1 </dev/null

      Also Metalink bug says this

Add the following to the init.ohasd file:

      # create .oracle directory if it does not exist:
      if [ ! -d /var/tmp/.oracle ]
      then
      mkdir /var/tmp/.oracle
      fi

      just before the entry:

      # Try to create named pipe.
      if [ root = "root" ]; then
      OUTPUT=`mkfifo $NAMEDPIPE 2>&1`
      else
      OUTPUT=`$SU root -c "mkfifo $NAMEDPIPE" 2>&1`
      fi

I am using the first one. Hope this helps

I tried to user the command above but it is stacked and nothing go further.

I tried also these two suggestions as below but nothing go for futher and the same error is getting while I run root.sh script :

    #start oracle

Anybody, could help how to resolve this issue, I really high appreciated.

    Thanks,

    • Taral says:

Deinstall grid and start from fresh.

When it ask for root.sh to run do your workaround. The only error i see is when it try to start HA services.

I think this is resolved with OLE 6.2 and 11.2.0.3 But not sure.

  7. Yasin says:

Thank you Taral and really appreciate your support.

I tried it many times, but with no progress.

By the way, I provide a wrong version number that means I used 11.2.0.2 for this installation but not 11.2.0.3 as I mentioned in my first posted message.

The only thing that I could interpret here, the OL6.2 support ACFS and its drivers is impeded and installed with ULK kernel, but grid Infrastructure software that am trying to install is 11.2.0.2 and not support ACFS. So that this confusion could rise this type of failure to start ohasd, I think but not sure.

    Yassin,

  8. Yassin says:

I have solved the ohasd startup issue: I found permission problem with /var/temp/.oracle/npohasd

I changd the ownership from grid:oinstall to root.oinstall as below:

    [root@localhost tmp]# cd .oracle/
    [root@localhost .oracle]# ls
    npohasd
    [root@localhost .oracle]# ls -l
    total 0
    prw-r–r– 1 grid oinstall 0 Mar 11 21:21 npohasd
    [root@localhost .oracle]# chown root:oinstall npohasd

    Then dconfigur crs using :

    [root@localhost .oracle]# /u01/app/11.2.0/grid/crs/install/roothas.pl -deconfig -force
    Using configuration parameter file: /u01/app/11.2.0/grid/crs/install/crsconfig_params
CRS resources for listeners are still configured
CRS-2613: Could not find resource ‘ora.cssd’.
CRS-4000: Command Stop failed, or completed with errors.
